Reflection about Level of Racism, Privilege, and Wealth Gap

It is important to accept the influence of race, privilege, and wealth gap in the society. Racism connotes the discrimination or prejudice that comes because of the difference in skin color. On the other hand, privilege means a favor accorded to some individuals based on specific considerations. Finally, a wealth gap exists when other people possess huge quantities of properties, including cash, while others lack it or possess very little.

Racism remains a problem in the nowadays society. For instance, in specific states, people acquire university entries after consideration of their race. Apart from learning institutions, other social facilities also promote racism by only accepting people of a specific color skin. In particular, in America, discrimination on racial basis has been eminent in most departments. The manner in which the police units treat people can serve as an example of racial discrimination. Privilege is another factor that goes with both racism and wealth gap. People of light color skin enjoy privileges in many aspects. For example, they have access to places and properties that other people cannot reach. Possession of wealth is another factor that promotes the acquisition of privileges. People with a huge amount of wealth have the opportunities to access most places and acquire all kinds of properties or services they may need. In the today’s modern society, many individuals own large amounts of money while others starve. The same society consists of people who cannot afford meals every day. The disparity in the possession of wealth is evident in many countries of the world. However, wealthy people have ignored the poor since they feel that all individuals deserve what they have. It calls upon the current leaders to take appropriate measures aimed at reducing wealth disparity among people.

Reflection about Race and Class, Gender and Age

Race refers to skin color differences that people have. For example, major races that exist include white or Caucasian, black or Negroid, and Asian. Some individuals have used their race to form the grounds for discriminating others. However, race is a result of nature; therefore, people need to regard it positively and view it as a normal thing that should not create any differences among them.

Class refers to a group of people who share common characteristics. The factors that define a class of people include wealth, faith, rank, and political interests among others. However, the major determinant of a class of people is the wealth factor. Many individuals prefer being identified by their properties; thus, they only associate with the people of their class.

Gender is a term that denotes masculinity or femininity. It used to be a reason for discrimination, especially when it came to the roles of people in the society. The society considered certain activities not worth feminine gender performing. The current states have fought to empower females’ development and to promote their involvement in all spheres of life. In other continents like Africa, cases of female genital mutilation have received strong opposition. People have opposed such activities that make women lesser beings. Gender equality has remained the order of the day in one respect or another. However, it is clear that feminine gender still faces discrimination in other respects, for instance, in the employment sphere.

Age factors also face many issues since one can only receive certain services by attaining the age of majority. Nevertheless, it does not appear harmful since it is only a matter of protecting the young people in the society. Identification based on age is not a common thing. The society is so dynamic that the interactions and communication between the old and the young have remained a daily routine.

Reflection about Education and Religion

Education is one aspect of the society that has remained stable in the last years. Most countries recognize the importance of education; therefore, they value it. The number of people with formal education keeps on increasing. Many countries have also expanded their university facilities to accommodate more students. Personally, the view on education remains positive only concerning larger population. However, one may also notice a challenge regarding the number of people with the ability to access quality education. Education and wealth are interrelated notions. Therefore, it is true that many people have dropped out of school at various levels due to the lack of funds. Quality education needs financial, social, and moral support. When one lacks financial support, acquiring quality education remains a dream. However, many countries have launched support for schooling, which they call free education. Most learning institutions also offer scholarships to students who do well in academics.

On the other hand, religion has proved both beneficial and detrimental to the current society. It plays a crucial role, as people base many happenings on it. The existence of several types of religion has both negative and positive impacts. While some view it as a source of freedom, others find it as the main cause of the current war in the world. Two strongly opposing forms of religion include the Christian and the Islamic ones. Nevertheless, religion has also remained the main form of ensuring peace within the society. For instance, recently, the Catholic Pope visited Muslim quarters during his African tour. More so, there are many stations set to ensure that religion spreads to other people in the world. One common point between religion and education is that religious organizations normally support educational institutions.
